rhymes with nice

Making this week’s comic actually made me giggle and itch simultaneously.  I had a run in with those blood sucking beasties as a kid.  I felt like the dirtiest nastiest thing in the world.  Oh, the shame and horror!  Turns out half the school had it but that didn’t make me feel any better.  Ah but it’s those fun times that squirm there way out of my subconscious and into my art, so it was worth the suffering and embarrassment.  I thought I could find some really fun vintage lice shampoo ads to accompany the comic but unfortunately I didn’t find anything decent so let’s look at some random weird old photos instead.

Jim sent me this link to BuzzFeed’s 50 Unexplainable Black & White photos. A lot of them seem perfectly plausible albeit strange, others are obviously photoshopped.  I still enjoyed them.  Here’s a few examples:

Is this early evidence of ‘furries’?  If so, I think they are actually less creepy nowadays.

Back in the day, a woman’s place was in the kitchen…or in the yard, hiding evidence of a bludgeoned husband.

I don’t see any deer around.  I wonder what else he can shoot?

This one is obviously Krampus.  Even though it’s explainable, it’s one of my favorites!  I <3 Krampus!

I don’t care if this one is photoshop’d – it made me laugh.

Okay,  you get the idea.  It’s a fun list.  I also found a tumblr site dedicated to weird black and white photographs called Black and WTF.   This site seems to use non-manipulated images.  I found a favorite right off the bat:

I just released a new art doll.  Her name is Willow and she’s been a little girl for a very, very long time.  Boo.  More photos and info on my art blog.  She’s available to purchase here.

    i like chubby bugs
    on my head, eating dander
    keeping shoulders clean

    at night, head pillowed,
    fingers find the fattest ones
    satisfying squeeze

Hehe, Krampus, actually managed to forget about him till now. I learned about him maybe 20 years ago. I love the character and wish we had celebrations similar here. Maybe i should endeavor to bring him back to light with my family and friends.

    John thought it funny
    bringing lice to school until
    Krampus came for him

well I bought a new computer and finally got all my links traded over from the other computer. So terribly sorry for the long absence I have to go back through and read what i’ve missed. I find it incredibly interesting i come back and you’ve haikud about Lice. My neices have been fighting lice almost consistantly for 3 years straight. The st pete school system they’ve been in cant get rid of it. Anyway thought i’d drop in and let you know i have not perrished in some fire related accident.

    best way to handle
    niece’s little lice problem:
    tell niece they are eggs

    living breathing ones
    and colour them for easter
    red yellow blue green

    tell the niece she has
    hair just like easter grass
    who needs a basket?
