java junkie

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

This week’s coffee craving robot comic is in honor of Kahwa Cafe where Frank Strunk III‘s newest work will be showing. I’m happy to announce that I’ve been working with Frank on a few pieces and our collaborative work will also be featured. It’s been a great experience and I’m excited to show you guys.

It’s funny because there have been a few times I’ve wanted to blog about Frank’s work but kept thinking I should wait until he was having a solo show or until the next wearable art show. If you would have told me 2 months ago I’d be writing about us collaborating I don’t think I’d have believed it. When he called, I was kind of shocked. You never expect someone you are a fan of to be a fan or yours. It’s kind of awesome though.

The upcoming show will primarily feature smaller new solo work by Frank in which he combines his metal work with photography. It’s freaking awesome. The collaborative pieces feature some of my 3d figures / art dolls as well as painting on metal and wood.

If you aren’t already familiar with Frank Strunk III’s metal and mixed media, kinetic, or Industrial wearable art, you have to check out his website. You can also see some of his art in motion on his YouTube channel.

Here’s a couple of photos of his past work in case you need additional enticement to see more.

I hail from Detroit. I haven’t commented in a while, but I’m a loyal reader.
Calan, you have some of the smartest readers, which is a reflection of you, the writer and artist. I have shared many of your posts and artwork with others. I direct them to your site.
Thank you for providing a morbidly cute area of the web to enjoy.

    red eyes and coffee
    sit in a bar together
    yes i’m a frayed knot

    lied the fat robot
    with the odd gurgling tummy
    then a brain walks in

    i can’t serve you, said
    the bartender clearly miffed
    you’re out of your head

    red eyes and coffee
    laughed, the fat robot swallowed
    his tongue and the brain

    craving her caffeine
    hijacks red eyes and coffee
    runs off with robot

    and starts a new life
    in a small roadside cafe
    as a metalhead

  9. Matthias Farland Says:

    tiny robot friend
    do not let your addiction
    ruin your non-life

    (I’d miss you)

  10. justme Says:

    this robot and i
have quite a bit in common
    when i stop to think:

    blinky bloodshot eyes,
    an addiction to caffeine,
    somewhat reticent

    we could be soul mates
…or we could be each other’s
    worst waking nightmare

    no one likes to see
    their own least favorite traits
    on constant display

    what seems cute today
    could become unbearable
    as the years wore on

    so i sit and sip
    savoring the bitter brew
    thoughts kept to myself

    justme – so very true
