trick or treat
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009This illustration has been on my mind for a while now. I finally made time to get it done and will be adding it to the GingerDead greeting card collection this week. I figure it’s about time I did an actual Halloween themed card.
I’m really excited to announce the Eclipse Gallery is now carrying my GingerDead cards as well as a selection of my illustrated jewelry. If you are in or around Algoma, Wisconsin check out the Eclipse Gallery. They have a show coming up that sounds really cool titled: 50 artists, 50 states, 50 mediums where, “one artist from each state will represent a different medium, bridging the gap between traditional fine art, and the applied arts, indie craft, and design fields.” The show runs from Sept 23rd thru Dec 31st. If you miss the show, I bet images will be posted to The Eclipse Gallery Photo Stream on Flickr.
Speaking of galleries, I recently stopped by a great local gallery called C Emerson Fine Arts to check out the Daniel Mrgan ‘Sick Days’ exhibit. Daniel does these amazing wood burnings that made me fall madly in love with the medium. The show was based on Daniel’s personal experiences growing up as a rather sickly child in Croatia and the countless days spent home sick, visiting doctors or being nursed with home remedies like wearing vinegar socks. This show was one of the best I’ve been to in ages. I wish I had some pics of the show but I haven’t come across much online. Here’s the flyer to give you an idea:

Here are some other examples of Mrgan’s work from his website:

Visit Daniel Mrgan’s website for lots more and if you are in the Tampa Bay area, check out Sick Days at C Emerson Fine Arts until September 26th.
See you next week!

basket full of sweets
oh joy my favorite kind
sneezing powder gum
A trick or a treat
how absurd. Cats dont do tricks
give the damn candy
I have this shirt thati bought several years ago that makes me laugh every time i wear it. “I’ll take the treat. Cats dont do tricks.” Reminded me of this comic only with a bat not a cat. My cousin had the shirt that said just give me the damn candy. Sick again i was doing so well 5 months of nothing then my birthday and bam i’ve been sick nearly non stop since.
Ps Glad you’re back my wednesdays are happy again

it *could* be a cat in bat’s clothing. you never know with calan.
in fact, upon inspection, the little pink nose almost gives it away.

Tricks, Treats, Wood Burnings,
The arsenal of calan’s
precious, screwed up mind.
And that’s the treat. The trick?
See this hand? See it? See it? See it? OHH LOOK THE OTHER HAND!
…calan, I apologize for having you read that.

amanda sorry you’ve been sick again
maybe something can be pulled from the experience like stories, poems, art..idk. look what came from daniel mrgan from his sickly childhood. crappy stuff makes for great inspiration…sometimes….or it just sucks. :/ *sends you feel better juju!*
sera – my kitty has a pink nose meter! did i ever tell you guys about it? if so sorry to repeat but it’s so flippin’ cute. the more excited, rambunctious, naughty she is being the deeper and hotter the pink. it goes from so pale a pink it’s nearly white when she is napping to full on raging hot pink when she is at her friskiest.

Hallowe’en in the form of
bloodthirsty justice
p.s. too bad you’re on the diagonal opposite side of the country from us–we’re going to be looking for some kitties when we move soon.

Love the Halloween illustration, and thanks for the linkage
Once this show is up I’m sure I’ll do a feature of your work on the blog. Just haven’t had any time!!
The woodburning artist is amazing. Too bad I don’t have the woodburning medium represented in the 50 show. I had a woodburning kit when I was a kid, I think I still have it somewhere….that would be fun.

I think that would make a great door hanging for the one most special night. Or even a window film.

sarah – they have woodburning kits at michaels i noticed. not too expensive either. i was tempted to try but feared the new distraction would keep me from finishing other things i’m working on! one day though…
welcome Baughbe and thank you. your name is so cute. i just spent two weeks kitty sitting a big strong cat named Harley but I called Baughbe the entire time for some reason. i just got home from there and to see a message in moderation from Baughbe made me laugh.
justme – it is too bad. i’m worried these kitties will turn into cats before getting homes. i really wish people would spay/neuter.
