star grazer

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

What an awesome week I had!  I’ve been invited to be part of a kickass art show – John Vitale presents Monsters of Art – Killer Art and Music @ the Garage – Central Ave Downtown St. Petersburg FL – on October 30th.  I only have two weeks and then on November 6th (also at the Garage) we have Jim Morey‘s Nuthin But Love Cd Release (and birthday!) Party with music, performance art, living statue fashion art by the House of Ska, an Artist Alley where I’ll have stuff, a dramatic reading by Mr. Satanism, etc. etc. It’s going to be an amazing night.  Hats off to Marty of the Garage.  This guy knows and loves music and art and has the best venue in St. Pete by far.  You can tell his heart is in every event he has there. A lot of venues just want your blood and soul so they can make a few bucks.  Dating a musician has taught me this.  The Garage is everything a venue should be and more.  <3 I've been working my butt off on Jim's promotional stuff - two sided postcard and a poster so far.  The theme is old school circus madness.  Anyway, it's been really rewarding designing stuff for someone I believe in for their big night and getting invited to be in the Monster show was icing on the cake. I don't normally bore you with the graphic design side of my life, but I think you'll dig Jim's party stuff so I'm going to share: Jim Morey Nuthin But Love

Jim Morey Nuthin But Love

Fun, huh?

In addition to Jim’s stuff I designed a new goth greeting card which is available in my etsy store.   I’m calling it Heart Strings.  You’ll recognize the art from a previous haiku comic panel but it’s been added to and remastered for the card and I’m working on prepping it so it will also be an 8 x 10 art print.  Here’s how it came out:

Heart Strings - GingerDead Goth Greeting Card

I dig how the chompy bramble cupid-type guy came out on the side there.  He makes me smile.   Hope he does the same for you.  🙂

So, you probably noticed the comic today is a lil painting instead of the usual digital art.  Star Grazer sold pretty much as soon as I painted it to the handsome and fabulous photographer extraordinaire Nick Doll.  There will be other original art though so stay tuned. 😉

Before I go, I just want to remind you that Obscuria.com is still having that 15% off deal if you are after gothic alchemy jewelry, goth home decor, cybergoth goggles or gasmasks, etc. this is the time to snag it.  The coupon code is on the Ennui art work on the homepage. 😉

Oh speaking of snagging stuff, guess who won a SpineStealer original drawing on that ebay auction?  Uh huh!  I got it for an absurdly low price.  It’s too absurd to say even.  When it arrives I’ll take a pic for you.  I can’t wait to get it!  yay!  I told you it’s been a fabulous week.

Ciao for now…

today’s painting is gorgeus. It gave me the smile i needed to start my day with. with that being said i think i’m going back to bed i’m not getting any sleep this week and i’m working myself to death this weekend. 60hours a week is too much

    Light shines in my eys
flashing high beams or bright stars
    is it day or night?

i love star grazer. beautifully done.
i dunno know, though. eating stars is kinda
like eating pheasants, in that they are too
beautiful to eat. however, chocolate stars
charm the hell out of my taste buds.
the ones made of real chocolate, i mean.

amanda – i woke up, read your comment, had some coffee with my boyfriend and went back to bed too. *rubs sleepy eyes* 60 hours is too much indeed.

Sera – what about those belgian truffle ones shaped like seashells? i’m more of a dark chocolate girl but omg those are tasty!

wow so perty Calan!! meh… have you ever thought of doing a umm what’s the word… silk screen i think it is of a comic? Idk but judging from your art i think it might be interesting to see ^_^ Anyway star chocolate is really good but I’m more of a regular milk chocolate kind of girl. Gormet chocolet was never really yummy in my opinion and i don’t like dark chocolate either i need the suuuugggaaaarrr!!! lolz
meh this made me smile buuuuuttttt unfortunately smiles hurt at the moment… I has a severe ear infection yuck…. anywho can’t wait till next week ^_^

  5. calan Says:

cells maybe? silk screen is what they do to make t-shirts and stuff.

sorry to hear about the ear infection. i’m prone to those myself and had one that almost cost me my hearing in one ear. take it easy and take care of it. those things can get really serious. so painful too. blah. hope you are smiling again soon. 🙂

Up above the world so bright,
    Inside my stomach tonight,
    Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
    Oh how delicious you are.

Go Lenior. Eat your heart out. 🙂

That’s awesome, calan! 🙂 Monsters of Art should be neat.
    Curse you Flordians!

    They’re just so shiny
    A delicasy indeed.
    Stars with your dinner?

WOW! Nice work on the poster and card. Love the layouts. The painting is killer! Great job. Funny you mentioned the bramble guy on your new card. I saw that crazy face and started laughing. He’s so evil crazy cute.

Thanks for all the links, always cool to check out artists i haven’t seen yet. Jim’s site is pretty cool. I will check it out more when i get the chance but i do love his statement “all things in moderation…including moderation” hehe love that.

I have a bunch of haiku this week but its all pretty much the same theme. I just couldn’t figure out which one to go with so, eh ,why not all.

    It moves unhindered
    darkness becomes more pronounced
    hunger satiated

    As the starlight fades
    one question comes to mind….where!
    does she put it all.

    Star grazing leads to
    a massive case of heartburn.
    Drink lots of water.

    Moving through the skies
in search of a good nights sleep
    she puts out the lights

Take care. Have a great weekend.

  12. calan Says:

thanks matt. i actually did the majority of photos and graphics on jim’s site so i’m glad you think it’s pretty cool. 😀

your haiku’n this week is freaking awesome. that last one is one of my favorites yet. clever.

hey i finally have a myspace, going to friend you now. wee!

  13. justme Says:

    Ah, star light star bright,
first star that I eat tonight
    will not be the last

Wouldn’t a star grazer just sort of nibble off the points, though? At least at first? That’s how I’d do it. Like the ears and tail on a chocolate bunny. The bits that stick out are just too tempting.

  14. Mask Says:

There’s something creepily adorable about Lenoir…

    Love it.

  15. calan Says:

i think you’re right justme. if you are looking at an individual star, grazing would indicate a nibbling thing. however, if you approach the entire universe filled with stars, eating only one at a time is grazing…sorta…no? hehe.

  16. calan Says:

mask – thanks and welcome 🙂
