Wednesday, October 8th, 2008I’m sure more than a few of you can relate to this week’s haiku. What’s the saying? Hindsight is 20/20? I suppose that’s true. Honestly, having been there a few times before I think in retrospect it was obvious even when I was ‘blind’. I just didn’t want to see the proverbial fleas, you know? Ah well, the past is the past and all that. I’m keeping my eyes open nowadays.
I’ve been focusing on my GingerDead goth greeting card line. I had to redesign some original concepts. To be honest a couple of them were god awful. I’m not sure what I was thinking. That was two years ago though and in a way those designs were flea-ridden but at heart they were good, so I put the proper time and effort in that I thought they deserved and am now selling them on etsy. Here’s a peek:
Here are the two that I really hated prior and now am pretty happy with. Especially the cthulhu card. I kinda love that one. 
These images show the design at a lower resolution but you get the idea. The cards themselves are done with beautiful archival inks on heavy textured cardstock (kinda like watercolor paper) with matching envelopes. If you’re planning on sending cards this year, consider sending something with a little edge that’s handmade with love and stuff.
Here are the Ennui ones which didn’t require such drastic revisions but I did work on to improve nonetheless.
That last one was an attempt to photograph a card in order to capture the texture which didn’t pan out so well. This might show it a little better.
They really are quite lovely. I promise. 
You can get the greeting cards currently in packs of 5 on etsy as well as GingerDead comic related signed archival art prints. If you can’t spring for the 5 pack and just want one for a certain someone, message me and I’ll hook you up. Likewise, if you prefer a mixed pack of cards instead of a single design.
Okay, that’s enough about me. Oh wait, no it isn’t! Happy Anniversary to meeeeee! GingerDead and Friends turned two on the 5th of October. Yay! Thanks for hanging out with me for two whole years. You guys have kept me going with your warm response to my little corner of the internet and I truly appreciate that.
Now, I know I just asked you to buy my stuff, but I couldn’t keep this awesome opportunity to myself. Remember the amazing artist Spinestealer I was posting about a couple of weeks ago? Well Spinestealer emailed me to tell me there are a few original ink ACEO art cards available for auction this week at ridiculously inexpensive starting bids (like 5 bucks). Spinestealer is trying to raise some quick money to help a friend out suffering from schizophrenia and made all the drawings for that purpose. So, if you thought you couldn’t afford an original Spinestealer, here’s your chance to snag one.
I actually signed up for ebay just to bid on Spinestealer’s stuff. It doesn’t seem like a ton of people know about this auction, so it really is a wonderful opportunity. I think the auction ends this week so don’t snooze. You can always buy greeting cards the following week.

ew, fleas are gross.
My dogs had fleas once. We had to get them these special collars and everything. Then once in a while, we’d find a dead flea lying around.

Fleas are like the nastiest creatures on the planet. They are the cause of so many things like plagues and tapeworms and eww I dont even want to think about it. Next pay check *assuming the hospital approaves my charity care* I’m ordering stuff. Haven’t decided what just yet but we will see.
Do you know anything good to do around the Halloween season on sundays here in Tampa? Its my only day off and I want to get out and enjoy it I’ve been cooped up all week and need a chance to do something fun.

ps. i love your greeting cards! they’re awesome because 1) you made them and 2) they are quite unique in a greeting card world dominated by boring weak sentimental blandness.

thanks everyone. yeah, i dont think gingerdead would care too much about the fleas even if he did see them…although he can be a lil jumpy so it’s prolly best he keeps pretending they don’t exist.

I knew there was a reason i didn’t get that replacement shirt this last weekend. It was so i could get more but only pay for shipping once.
I will be getting some of those cards but i think i will send you an e-mail about it.
Man those are some huge freakin fleas. The two of them look like flea farmers in this picture hehe. I love the expressions on the fleas. To me it looks like they are starving and can’t figure out why they are getting nothing form these two. Course that’s just my take on it.

unfortunately the cool cards are on etsy and not the cafe press store with the t-shirts. there are still some on there of older designs that i’ll be removing. honestly i want to kill cafe press altogether and get my own line of shirts screened but it’s such a big investment. 
doing it myself is an option but even more expensive initially. anyway, the cards i have on etsy are hand done by me on gorgeous paper and inks and blow away the ones i had on cafepress. i think you’ll love them. def. email me and i’ll put together whatever you want with the cheapest shipping possible.
i love your take on the hungry fleas. it made me lol for real.

i’m not very good at poems.. a haiku was like, 5-7-5 syllable count, right? or maybe it wasn’t. i might write a haiku one day, tho.
This comic actually kinda makes me remember the flea-inspection we had at school this week.. lol. i love our school nursey, she’s so talkative and friendly, haha. she’ll keep you outta math lesson, just talking and happily and discusing life for hours. xD
oh, and a tiny update on my dollies. i’ve finished one more so far and i have a few on hold but i was thinking.. once i got a little more i should make a website for them! like a little cyber-home for the lovelies. i just have to figure out how and torture a computer-geek friend at some time.

I love how when Lenoir scratches her fleas, she does it behind their ears because that’s where they like it. She’s so good with the bugs. Except butterflies of course.

justme – the scritching bit actual makes me snicker when i look at it which doesn’t happen with my own comic very often. i’m glad you liked that too.
chance – that could be arranged for you if you really want one. you think it is a good one for a card in general? i guess it could be a cool alternative one for valentines or a notecard or something. idk. will think about it.

i usually don’t do insides of cards..or haven’t with the new line, but it might be cute to have it read – i love you fleas and all or something of that nature or i’d love you even if you had fleas. whatcha think?

Omgosh so that i love you fleas and all quote triggered a memmory i wanted to share. My freshmen year in college we were instructed to go see the school’s theater performance of the musical HONK! which is the story of the ugly duckling. It was soo cute i went twice to see it but there is a song in it called Warts and all where the frogs sing to each other how they love each other warts and all and i thought id share since i know your feelings on frogs. It was a much better play than Batboy *the musical adaptation on the World wide news articals about the infamous Batboy*.

aww that sounds adorable! so batboy the musical wasn’t so great? i just saw a mention of it in creative loafing last week and was considering catching it. but there’s a dark comedy about the devil being on trial i think at jobsite i’m also interested in. super busy and super broke though so maybe i wont see any of them. hehe

sorry about your mom and balsac, lol. i saw a ton of people in white t-shirts and totally got it, just didn’t think of it before hand or I would have worn one myself. anyways, it was def fun and wont be my last gwar show.
you know they totally lip synch right? that made it that much funnier to me. XD
