Ch-ch-ch-changes… I’ve been a busy girl!

If you poke around the site, you’ll see some new stuff like the about page and fan art section as well as a link over to my brand new Etsy shop! I’ve been watching etsy for about a year now and have come to the decision that it’s pretty damn cool. If you aren’t familiar with it, etsy is all about indie art and handcrafted items. You’ll find pretty much anything you can imagine like paintings, art prints, jewelry, purses, corsets..whatever. The folks at etsy don’t rob the artists blind and don’t make us mess with cheesy auctions. Just list for a small fee and when you have a sale pay etsy a small percentage of the sale. Simple. I highly recommend you do some shopping over there instead of the mall and see if you aren’t a hell of a lot happier.

So after digging etsy’s vibe for some time now I finally decided it was time to open an etsy store of my own. One of the main things you’ll find in my store is signed art prints from the comic. All the prints are done on archival paper with beautiful archival vivera inks. In other words, if you buy a print it will outlive you and your babies and it will laugh at you when you’re dead. HooO! Not bad for 13 measly bucks, huh?

Besides prints, I currently have two gothic holiday card sets printed on lovely card stock in archival vivera inks and one vendetta chainsaw magnet. I’ll be adding paintings and voodoo fun in the near future. Here’s a nifty little ad I made for the GingerDead Shoppe today:

Okay, that was too much me me me. I have to promote other cool things in the universe or there will surely be disorder and chaos. So, I take you back to the fabulous humans I encountered at Convergence 14 and share with you three items that I absolutely adore.

First, the Atomic Lounge’s spider purse. I drooled over this at the con and Jim ended up surprising me at the end of the day. We were parked next to the vendors (who drive a rad hearse!) and he ran over and swapped a beautiful chainmaille necklace for a spider purse right under my nose. 🙂 Here’s a pic of the purse…and guess where you can buy it? At the Atomic Lounge’s etsy store, of course!

Next up are corsets. Not just any random corset that won’t fit you right, but custom made corset artisans. This couple rocks. They even bought a couple of my art prints for their new home. 🙂 If you think you can’t shop online for such a fitted piece, you’re mistaken. They will guide you through the measurements needed and create a piece that will fit you perfectly in a style and fabric of your choosing. This is the real thing. Check out SINched for more details and sexy pics.

Finally, there is the king of all Goth shops online. Obscuria has a little bit of everything so you’ll have to browse the site to get the whole idea. I’ll just mention here what in my opinion is the most unique and exciting line of products that they carry – handmade industrial cyber goggles! These rank high on my list of things I totally can’t afford but would love to have. There are quite a few goggle styles to choose from and I’m having trouble deciding which is my favorite, so I’m just going to post a pic of some vampire cyber ones I found particularly delightful, check it out:

Oh, I forgot to mention Obscuria also carries cybergoth gas masks. What’s not to love?!

Okay, I’m done shilling now. I hope you like the changes and dig the new store. I have more surprises to be announced soon. In the meantime, how about some haiku love to keep me going? See you next week….

I love the links as usual. Obscuria is quite cool.

I actually noticed the redo of the about section last week but forgot to mention it. Got rid of the cat i see. The new store is pretty cool. I am going to make some purchases next month. I am near tapped out for this one. I did check out some of the Etsy site. Gonna have way too much fun in there. Not sure if i should thank you for that hehe. The work on the tree in this one is quite good. I like the curling limbs. Looks great with the moon in that phase.

    The oppressive glare
    moves below the horizon
    sweet relief pervades

    As darkness takes hold
    a welcome peace settles in
    nights beauty promised

wow those haikus are beautiful, matt. 🙂 thanks!

yeah i have been slipping changes into the site since last wednesday. a lot of the pages looked totally ghetto, lol. it’s looking better now i think, except i broke the archives nav bar. i’m not a big php / css person. it’s a miracle i have this comicpress theme looking and working as well as it does.

thanks for the compliment on the tree and moon. it took ages to draw this week’s comic. still not happy with the text and such. i got too wrapped up in the tree and didn’t plan the page out very well. next thing i knew i was 6 hours into it and had to just make the most of what i’d done. at least the tree came out cool enough for me to deal with the other shortcomings.

That tree reminds me a lot of a tree that was between my house and my best friend’s house when I was ten or so. I didn’t like to walk over there in the evening or stay late in the winter because its twisty bare branches were so incredibly spooky in the dark and I was afraid to go near it lest it grab me.

    does daylight reveal
    truths concealed by the night
    or just the reverse?

ehm. in the ad, you have a typo.
You forgot the ‘p’ in ‘inspired’

ah, and those masks were amazing

  5. calan Says:

thanks so much maria. i was graphic designing my brains out yesterday and totally missed that. yay for raw files. i’m off to fix that now.

    btw, welcome 🙂

justme – glad i could reawaken some childhood terrors! thanks for the haiku 🙂

  7. Seraphine Says:

that is an awesome drawing, calan. i love the tree, with the sliver of moon behind it. beautiful beautiful. beautiful.

    his blood is hidden
    creeping among skin and bones
    avoiding the light

  8. calan Says:
