sink or swim
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008Other than being eaten alive by insects again, it’s been a great week. Yesterday morning I kicked off my birthday by getting really high…parasailing over the gulf of Mexico.
The last few birthdays have been pretty depressing so I wanted to start this one off in happy fun mode. Mission accomplished!
On Saturday night, I went to party at the Vitale Bros. studio which was an exhibition featuring art, music and fashion inspired by the film: The Warriors. It’s a cult classic, I suppose. “Warriors come out and plaaaaaay…” That one. Remember? Maybe not.
It was a great theme to build on. I really enjoyed the show. Here’s a few crappy pics I snapped. They do not do the art justice but you’ll get the idea.
Love that lil guy above. He reminds me of Clockwork Orange a bit. That film is probably how Vendetta got her lashes, by the way.
Before I go, I have a link you must check out. It’s Joshua Hoffine’s photographs based on childhood fears. He uses friends and family to stage these nightmarish scenes. I feel obligated to warn you if you are extremely phobic of insects like spiders, some of the images are riddled with them. I’d feel bad if I sent you reeling into a heart attack or something. But, seriously these are awesome and I bet you can relate to one if not several of the fears depicted. Big thank you to reader J for emailing me that link so I could share it with you all.
See you next week, my friends…

I like your “crappy pictures” from The Warriors
exhibit. Too bad you didn’t get any pics of your
birthday parasailing adventure too. But heyy…
you had a great birthday and that’s what counts.

Haven’t seen the Warriors in quite a long time. Interesting art. That little guy is very Clockwork Orange. Loved the comic this week. Anything with Ven being her nasty little self is gonna be good hehe.
Glad to hear you had a good birthday. Parasailing sounds like a great way to spend it.
Thanks for the Joshua Hoffine link. Loved that artwork. Very cool.
Super Rad Floaties
beware vendetta bearing gifts

thanks for the bday wishes and haikus
glad you liked the link matt – i should have mentioned that joshua hoffine’s photographs aren’t photoshopped perse…he uses ps to enhance them but as far as i understand he sets up the scenes using props and friends to create the imagery. i think that makes them extra awesome.
