punk cabaret (haiku)
Wednesday, January 9th, 2008hoOooOO!!
Sorry, I had to get that out of my system. Dresden Doll fans might have picked up on the reference, but for those unenlightened let me explain. This week’s comic is a tribute to the Dresden Dolls and more specifically the Dresden Dolls’ Dirty Business Brigade. Less than a week ago, one of the guys from the Tampa division emailed me and asked if I’d like do some brigading in the vein of handing out GingerDead and Friends art. You guys know how crazy I am about the Dolls, so I was over the moon happy to be involved with the show in any small way.
The Dirty Business Brigade is basically a hodgepodge of street performers, artists, musicians, poets, acrobats, etc. who entertain the crowd outside the show, in the theatre, on stage between sets (if you really rock ;P). It stemmed from the singer, Amanda Palmer’s street performer background. She worked as a living statue and when the Dresden Dolls started playing, some of her interesting performance friends would show up and do their thing. It’s really evolved into something that makes the already incredible experience of attending their shows even more amazing.
Anyway, I’ve been busy putting together a fabulous costume I refer to as ‘the Crinoline Nightmare’ and spending lots of money on printing double sided comic postcards to give out. One of my favorite humans, Jimmy Morey, will be brigading with me playing trumpet. Maybe something dirgey? Who knows.
So, if you are attending the show at Tampa Theater on Thursday, come and say hello. I will definitely bite you.
I will update you guys with lots of pics and maybe we’ll manage to get some video.
To all the Brigaders and to Amanda and Brian, thanks for doing what you do. Seriously. Can’t freaking wait til Thursday night!

thanks for the haikus
Seraphine - yours is really beautiful and extra points for getting Dead Can Dance in there. i looove them!
Starguy, I totally miss NYC. have a falafel for me!
Withershins. I’ll give you a hint. It’s an adhesive that is mentally unstable.
So today we went to the costume store. Features in Tampa is the bomb not to mention the only one around. I got my wig sorted and some theatrical makeup. This evening was spent decorating a lil basket to keep my comic cards in and fashioning a leather mask for Jim. Fun times! I can’t wait to put it all together and see how we turn out.
I think I’ll set my lil LastFM thingy so it plays only punk / dark cabaret tunes. Just click the link in the side bar to listen.

“Life is no cabaret
We don’t care what you say
We’re inviting you anyway
You motherf*ckers you’ll sing someday…”

The first thing I did when I got home was to look up your website. Timing is everything, if you had not been placing an order that day at Cafe Bohemia, I would have not picked up the Reax mag and known they were coming till so much later. And yes I did not recognize you when you handed me the flyer. Peace

ha that’s so cool. i like to play chameleon. but what’s my excuse for not recognizing you? i’ll blame the hooch.
yes to the timing thing. sometimes, when the universe gets tired of pointing and laughing, it smiles on us and it’s magical.
anyway, glad we both had a kick ass time. see you around st. pete sometime i’m sure.
btw - flogging molly @ jannus…march 8th or 9th i think.
peace.
