Before I tell you why I was unable to do a comic this week, let me send a big thanks to Chance Abattoir from Second Life who sent me this fan art a couple of weeks ago. I was so impressed that I decided it would be be a guest comic one day when I was in a bind. I didn’t expect it to happen so fast, but it did and he saved the day. 🙂 If that wasn’t enough he also gave in to my demands that he carve a pumpkin this year. I just meant, you know, a regular scary faced jack-o-lantern to get in the spirit of Halloween. Well, he carved one into a killer piece of Ennui fan art. Take a look:
As for me, this last week has been hell. Halloween was great or so I thought. I put together a last minute costume, something simple: Magenta from Rocky Horror and headed to the local goth club. Awesome costumes, yummy cocktails, etc. I got home really late and it wasn’t until the next day I realized my favorite kitty was missing. She’s an indoor kitty and I guess slipped out when the trick-or-treaters were here. I can’t put into words how distraught I was.
For the next four days or so I posted 150 flyers, walked the neighborhood non-stop, talked to every human I saw, visited shelters, you name it. My ankles were rubbed raw from walking so much and my hand swelled up and turned into a claw like thing from over use of the industrial staple gun. I hardly ate or slept and cried like a lunatic.
I have to say that during this time I realized that people don’t actually suck as much as I sometimes think they do. Total strangers were starting to look for her and call me if they thought they spotted her. It was so important to actually go up to neighbors and ask them for help because statistically cats that get lost often are in a small radius like a few houses away or a few blocks at most, but they are scared and confused and don’t seem to hear you screaming their name through the streets at 2 am. Go figure.
I’m glad to tell you the story has a happy ending. The other night I heard a knock at my door and when i swung it open there were two girls holding my kitty in a towel with her little head peeking out at me. I can’t believe it. She lost a little weight and has a small cut on her leg, but is doing great otherwise. Oh, and guess where she was? Three freaking houses away! I can’t tell you how many times I must have climbed around that lawn and every other one in town calling her. Silly kitty!
Since she’s come home I’ve had my hands full calling shelters and contacting websites where I filed lost reports and walking the entire neighborhood removing all the signs I posted. That felt quite awesome outside of the bleeding ankles. I had a lot of people giving thumbs up or shouting congratulations while I was doing it. Total strangers. It was really something.
Just when I thought I could settle in, work on my comic and maybe get some sleep I’ve had two graphic projects come in that were “rush”. So, no comic for you! Not from me anyway. I’ll put my claw to work soon and have something for you next week. See you then. 🙂
