forbidden fruit
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007Yay, it’s haiku time again. Gimme!
Today’s comic was partly inspired by a fruit thief I know. In this part of the state, it’s common to have grapefruit or orange trees on your property. Those that don’t either look at their neighbors with envy or take matters into their own hands like my fruit thief pal who will tiptoe around the neighborhood late at night on a fruit raid. I’m an enabler as I’ll happily accept part of the loot when it’s offered. Anyway, that was where the idea for the haiku started but it took some other directions in the process.
There technically is no such fruit as a ‘bloodfruit’ as far as my googling research shows. There are blood oranges though which are kinda spooky looking.
I hope you enjoy. Spread some love and tag me if you use stumbleupon.com or digg or any of that stuff. Have a good week and I’ll see you next Wednesday.

Eat, eat dear Lenoir
Eat ’til your heart’s contented
Put some flesh on you
Calan- this is your *best* cartoon ever. I love it, I love it.

temptation beckons;
enterprising skeleton
gives in to it – twice
juicy prize awaits
Lenoir stealthily takes it
arm raised in triumph

Juice burts, dribbling down my chin
savory and sweet.

I used to eat blood oranges, but their unusual taste is a little too strong to eat on a daily basis.
What is good is a hybrid between normal oranges and blood orange (I can’t recall the name of the hybrid). Ciao Bella also makes a blood orange sorbet that I am quite fond of, second only to their pear.
For something truly strange, and possibly revolting, buy a bottle of blood orange juice. It can run you about $6 for a bottle.
