misguided empathy (haiku)
Wednesday, April 11th, 2007Yep, it’s haiku time again. You know what to do.
I have grumpy stuff on my mind about people stealing other people’s work (Todd Goldman is a thief ) and I can’t think of anything fun to talk about. Hmm. Okay, how about a link to a comic that often revels in discomfort and awkwardness? I read Idiot Comics regularly and had somehow neglected to add a link until today. Check it out.

The whole Todd Goldman thing is kinda creepy. Sure, people borrow ideas and themes, but to rip off a famous (at least in internet terms) comic and then have the audacity to hang it in a gallery with your name on it… wow.

Tealia - NOT Happening TO ME personally.
But it IS happening to Roman Dirge (creator of Lenore the Cute Little Dead Girl), Dave Kelly (Purple Pussy Comics) , Liz Greenfield (Stuff Sucks) and others. The t-shirt you bought, if it was “Lenore” than it’s Dirge’s merchandising which is great. If you buy something that looks an awful lot like Lenore but is called Eve L, than it’s Goldman ripping off Dirge’s character. He has an entire line of T-shirts that are obvious rip-offs of Dirge’s Lenore.
Goldman actually traced that Purple Pussy comic, colored it in and hung it in a freaking art gallery. His painting of Stuff Sucks’ Binky is selling for 5K. This jackass is making a fortune and is known as a pop artist who claims to ‘ never read comics’ , yet he copies comicker’s work over and over again in such a blatent way, it’s apparant he doesn’t give a crap. The morons buying this stuff for big money have no clue that it’s not original.

But, please do not confuse my Lenoir (le-nwar) with Dirge’s Lenore. Other than working in the spooky cute kind of genre like Tim Burton and a zillion other artists, we have nothing in common. Well, I guess we have one more thing in common now. We both are sickened by Todd Goldman.
