milk and cookies (haiku)
Wednesday, January 10th, 2007Hey everyone,
I hope you enjoy today’s comic. I got a little more experimental with the art since i had a dreamscape to work with. Poor GingerDead has lactophobic issues.
On Monday, I’m going to post some bonus art related to this same subject, so please check back. Also, on Monday I should be linking over to a guest artist gig I’m doing over at Debt-On who is featuring an entire month of guests in January.
News:
GingerDead and Friends received it’s first official review. You can read it here at Sapo Entertainment’s blog. I was absolutely thrilled at how well Sketch captured GingerDead’s essence. It’s a really well written piece and made me feel rather warm and fuzzy inside.
This week the nominations start for The Cartoonist’s Choice Awards and it looks like GingerDead is getting a few nominations for best newcomer! We’ll see if we get enough nominations to end up in the running, but even a few nominations is something to be proud of, so yay! This is an award from peers. Only other comickers can nominate, so this makes it rather special.
In other comic news, FLEEN has a great interview with Ben Stirling of PatrickGreyOnline that you should check out. I’m doing a guest strip for him in the near future as he is celebrating one year of strips with a week’s worth of guests. It’s a great comic and I am eager to see where it goes in year two. Congrats Ben!
Finally, you may have noticed some ads on the site. I am keeping them as unobtrusive as necessary. These fine people are buying adspace which i use the proceeds from to buy ads on other comic sites. It’s all about spreading the word and supporting other comics through a new advertising method called Project Wonderful. If you’re looking for new comics to read, give these advertisers a shot. They might just rock. I can’t promise they are work safe, so be warned.
That’s all for now. See you on Monday with bonusy goodness.

Aww poor GD is having a nightmare.
I like the painterly style you have here. I would be cool to see a physical painting someday with GD in this style.

chris: thanks for commenting on the style. this started out as something entirely different and much like painting, i kept covering areas and building until i liked it. i would like to do some paintings in the future for sure.

I love the juxaposition of characters usually associated with blackness or darkness having nightmares about drowning in a sea of white (milk). Also, great detail with GD biting the covers as he dreams.
As always, great work!

Looking at Gingerdead chewing the cover reminds me of how I grind my own teeth in my sleep… Poor fellow needs less stress in his life. :-/ I should have mentioned the use of haiku in the review; I haven’t seen anyone else do it quite so reliably (or well) as you do.

Scott: Thanks for your comment. That’s a keen observation I’m not even sure I was fully conscious of.
CottonFluff: I grind too! I wake up some days with my jaw aching because I was grinding so bad in my sleep.
The review was awesome, seriously. Thanks again for that. As for the haiku’s, you can count on them being quite frequent. I really enjoy doing them.
Everyone:
Haiku comments rock

GD biting the blanket is cool.

Yes, our ads do look mildly erotic on one another’s site! I enjoy your bally hoo quite a bit…
Congrats on the review, first step to the big time, a place I doubt I’ll see!
Keep up the good work!

thanks R.T. ! i’ll keep sexing up your site as long as i can afford to. hooo!

Advertising is delectably expensive: I’m at about 60 bucks a week for ol’ Project Wonderful. At this rate I won’t be able to afford to eat… but why do it you may ask? Because the advertising that’s on my website actually makes me want to click on it.
Wouldn’t-a-known about you without it.

same here. i’ve discovered quite a few new comics through this thing. i don’t have much to put in to advertising, but at least when i do it’s nice to be able to support other comickers. i also like controlling who is advertising here. spammy pyramid people tried to bid and i booted their asses.
